POSITION SUMMARY

NRDC India is hiring an Industries and Green Hydrogen Specialist who will play an active role in advancing NRDC India’s work on industrial energy efficiency and green hydrogen in India. This role involves implementation and scaling of industrial energy efficiency technologies and green hydrogen. This role would also play an active role in advancing work in India on climate change and clean energy and involve research, investigation, and analysis of various elements of the India’s transition to a low-carbon, climate resilient economy. The industries and green hydrogen specialist will also include direct engagement with partners, government officials, and stakeholders, as well as project management.

The position would also work on other project areas and provide research and analysis on other core elements of NRDC India initiatives, including but not limited to accelerating clean energy and energy access, energy efficiency and cooling, clean transportation, climate resilience and health and climate policy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conduct research and provide contributions to policy and technical research, analysis, writing on industrial energy efficiency, green hydrogen scoping and technical analysis
  • Review policies, collect data, conduct energy analysis to assess the potential of green hydrogen in overall low carbon transitions
  • Collaborate with other members of the cooling and efficiency and energy access team on project planning, implementation, and dissemination with partners
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and partners to ensure project milestones are met in a time bound manner.
  • Participate in workshops, conferences, and seminars to present research findings and contribute to discussions on industrial energy efficiency and green hydrogen.
  • Prepare clear and concise research reports, blogs, policy briefs, whitepapers, and presentations summarizing research findings and policy recommendations.
  • Work with internal & external stakeholders (such as government, industry, private players and academia) on effective dissemination & outreach strategies.
  • Support team activities including project implementation, planning and work area expansion strategies.
  • Daily domestic and international communication by phone, email and in-person meetings
  • Domestic and international travel for meetings, conferences and roundtables

Requirements:
Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, energy management, economics, or equivalent related experience
  • 3-5 years of previous work experience in energy/environmental or other policy work in India.
  • Experience of working on topics such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable cooling, and relevant policy, finance and technology issues

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects involving multiple people and deliverables, and to perform or quickly learn new tasks, systems, and technologies.
  • Ability to prioritize and efficiently execute many tasks, follow institutional procedures, and work independently with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple projects and shifting requests in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), in addition to knowledge of or ability to learn relevant industry and NRDC specific software and platforms.
  • Competence with and commitment to diversity and inclusion; ability to be an effective partner with diverse colleagues, leaders and partners.
  • Ability to occasionally travel approximately 30% annually

Preferred Qualifications & Characteristics

  • A master’s degree in a relevant field of study such as energy systems, engineering, economics, policy and other related fields will be preferred.
  • Excellent writing skills, strong verbal communication, and confident public speaker.
  • Experience working with sub-national governments preferred along with a knowledge of the Indian political system, economic structures, and socio-cultural landscape, and a network of professional contacts in India.
  • Ability to participate in teams that work collaboratively towards shared outcomes (including remote teams using collaborative software).
  • Experience with any data analysis software (such as Python) and social media tools
