POSITION SUMMARY
NRDC India is hiring a State Based Representative who will play an active role in advancing NRDC India’s work on climate and clean energy solutions across various states and cities in India. This role involves providing support in developing and implementing a comprehensive regional strategy that fosters engagement with governmental bodies, local stakeholders, and community organizers. This role will also be responsible for identifying relevant state level stakeholders along with their potential contributions, facilitating opportunities for collaboration, promoting innovative energy solutions, and effectively communicating the benefits of sustainable practices.
Key responsibilities include conducting thorough assessments of regional energy needs, collaborating with state officials to align strategies with public policies, and leveraging partnerships to drive impactful clean energy initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, an understanding of climate challenges in urban and rural settings, and the ability to advocate for policies that support sustainability and resilience. The role demands a passionate representative committed to transforming the energy landscape in India while ensuring the equitable distribution of resources and opportunities for communities.
Essential Functions:

- Support the development of a holistic regional strategy for engagement with states and cities to advance climate and clean energy solutions
- Help to support the creation, execution, and measurement of the team’s operational work plans in support of the regional strategy and advocacy plans in collaboration with NRDC India colleagues across Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Buildings, Climate Resilience, Power, and Transportation sectors
- In collaboration with NRDC India Director of Programs, work with colleagues across the organization to develop regional approaches for policy and program implementation activities.
- Collaborate closely with central government agencies to align on institutional priorities within target states.
- Leverage existing relationships with key strategic partners to accelerate and deepen action. Support development of new relationships, in coordination with program leadership
- Ensure presence - for about 50% of the time - in priority states for on ground engagement including Rajasthan, Gujarat, U.P. and others with NRDC India staff leading on government and partner engagement.
- Working with NRDC India’s communications team, serve as key external voice of NRDC India on regional climate and energy issues.
- Support team activities including project implementation, planning and work area expansion strategies.
- Conduct research and provide contributions to policy and technical research, analysis, writing on climate change and environmental health.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, partners to ensure project milestones are met in a time bound manner.
- Prepare clear and concise research reports, policy briefs, whitepapers, and presentations summarizing research findings and policy recommendations.
- Work with internal & external stakeholders (such as government, industry, private players and academia) on effective dissemination & outreach strategies.
- Daily domestic and international communication by phone, email and in-person meetings
- Domestic travel for meetings, conferences and roundtables

REQUIREMENTS Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, public policy, economics, or equivalent related experience
- 3-5 years of previous work experience in energy/environmental or other policy work in India.
- Work experience in energy topics such as renewable energy, energy access, utilities, energy efficiency, electric mobility, climate change and relevant policy.

- Demonstrated ability to manage projects involving multiple people and deliverables, and to perform or quickly learn new tasks, systems, and technologies.
- Ability to build and sustain partnerships with state level government departments on specific work areas including following up with them for completion of agreed actions and timelines.
- Ability to prioritize and efficiently execute many tasks, follow institutional procedures, and work independently with meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple projects and shifting requests in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), in addition to knowledge of or ability to learn relevant industry and NRDC specific software and platforms.
